Meet Sandgropers Over 60
West Australians over 60 are used to being two or three hours behind the east, and most will tell you that is exactly how they like it. They are straightforward, outdoorsy and always keen on a long stroll by the sea, preferably with someone worth talking to.
Busselton Jetty stretches about 1.8 kilometres out to sea and is the longest timber piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. Walking out and back gives you a long, easy conversation with nowhere to hide, in the nicest possible way.
Up in Geraldton, the HMAS Sydney II Memorial on Mount Scott looks over the town and the Indian Ocean, and is free to visit. Its dome of 645 silver gulls, one for each sailor lost, makes for a quiet, moving hour together. Down south in Albany, the Ellen Cove Boardwalk at Middleton Beach rises gently around King Point with views over King George Sound, and from June to October you may spot whales.
