Meet Gold Coasters Over 60
Coolangatta and Tweed Heads are twins that happen to live in different states, so a date here can start with a cuppa in Queensland and finish with a stroll in New South Wales without anyone leaving the footpath. For the over 60s, that counts as international travel, and nobody has to dig out a passport.
For a first meeting, head up to Point Danger, the headland that has marked the border between the two states since 1863. The Captain Cook Memorial Lighthouse, finished in 1971, stands on top, and you can take in the view with one foot in each state.
Further north, the Oceanview Walk in Burleigh Head National Park is an easy stroll of about 30 minutes between the southern edge of Burleigh Heads and Tallebudgera Creek. Look for the six sided basalt columns at Echo Beach, and in winter and spring keep one eye on the ocean for passing whales.
